New Delhi: Good news for more than 30 lakh officers and employees of the central government. These people will now easily be able to easily withdraw money from their General Provident Fund (GPF). The Controller General of Accounts (CGA), a company that looks after government accounts, has developed a special online system. Also, a new system has been developed for pensioners, which will benefit more than 12 lakh retired people.
For those joining the Central Government job till December 31, 2003, depositing money in GPF is compulsory. At least six percent of basic salary and more than 100 percent can be deposited in this fund. From time to time, this fund has the facility to withdraw money from the fund for accidental needs, which can also be called interest free debt. On the other hand, after the completion of nine years of service, the deposits up to 90% can be withdrawn. At the time of retirement of employee, the interest is returned to the full amount deposited in GPF. Keep in mind that arrangements for the new pension scheme have been started since January 1, 2004, after which the GPF's mandatory requirement has been abolished.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has launched a facility called GPF Online for easy and easy provision of withdrawal from GPF. Through this arrangement the mapping of the GPF account will be done with the Employee ID and the employees will be able to withdraw money. Officials claim that after the new system came into effect, it would be possible to get advance within a day and a half, whereas in the old system this work took many days. There are about 49 lakh officers and employees of the Central Government, out of which 30 are in general civil services while others are from Defense and Railways. Now the benefits of the new system will be available to people involved in general civil services.
On the other hand, the finance minister introduced the new system e-ppo for pensioners. This will help retirees to resolve pension related issues faster through an online system. Officials say that through paperwork, it takes considerable time on one hand to settle the issues related to pension and on the other hand there are fears of many kinds of mistakes. It will be possible to overcome all these difficulties through the new system.
Both of these systems have been developed by the officers and employees of Civil Accounts Services, which handles the government book accounts. On the occasion of the 42nd Foundation Day of the Civil Account Service, Jaitley said that these officers and employees have great responsibility for keeping one fact true. If one figure goes wrong, then the exact picture can not be exposed in front of the whole country.
