New Delhi: The CBI has questioned the Punjab National Bank's MD Sunil Mehta and Executive Director Brahma Rao for a scam worth Rs 11,500 crore. However, yesterday PNB convinced the customers to give clearance in many cases related to the scam.
Officials said that in connection with PNB officials, an attempt has been made to understand how the bank has caught the scam. Also, there has been an attempt to understand other procedural issues and violations. Officials clarified that Mehta and Brahma Rao were not interrogated as accused.
Officials refused to give further details about this, saying that 12 more accused arrested in this case are also being questioned. He said that the agency has questioned the top officials of PNB for the first time. The scandal could not hold for six years. This has started questioning the entire banking system of the country.
Passport canceled by Neerav Modi and Choksi
Apart from this, the passports of PNB scam accused Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi and two others have been canceled. Foreign Ministry sources said today that on the advice of the Enforcement Directorate, the Ministry had suspended the legitimacy of their passport for immediate effect for four weeks from February 16 and gave them a week's time to answer why their passport Be confiscated or canceled.
A source in the Ministry of Canceled Passport said, "Because they have not responded so far, their passports have been canceled." The Ministry has cleared the notice given to Modi and Choksi. Had they failed to answer, their passports would be canceled. Ministry sources said that future action will be taken on the advice of agencies. Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and ED have registered two or two FIRs in the case. Modi and Choksi are said to have said that both the countries have already left before criminal cases have been filed against them.
The PNB case has come to the fore today for 11 days and today, in this matter, the ED once again took huge action and took possession of six houses, ten offices, one farm house and 135 acres of land. ED has seized offices and houses in Pune and Mumbai, including Neerav Modi's Farm House, Solar Power Plant located in Alibag and 135 acres of land located in Ahmednagar.
ED called for Nirav's relatives and Mehul Choksi for questioning.
Before moving ahead with the investigation, the ED sent summons to Neerav Modi's wife Amy for questioning. The ED has seized a large number of imported watches from a workshop attached to Neerav Modi. ED has issued orders for fresh seizure of shares of bank accounts of Rs 30 crore and shares worth Rs 13.86 crore under the PMLA Act.
