IN DEPTH: Modi government is far behind in terms of giving employment
Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister of the country for the last three and a half years. His first claim was that he would get one crore jobs per year.
New Delhi: On the issue of unemployment, the road ahead for the central government's NDA government is becoming increasingly difficult. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP made unemployment an issue with loud noise. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had once again told the UPA Government a lot of good on jobs in rallies. PM Modi used to attack the government on the issue of unemployment in a very aggressive manner.
For the last three and a half years, Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister of the country. Prior to assuming power, he promised that one crore jobs would be provided every year. Recently, PM Modi has said two big things on employment in the interview given to two private news channels. The first thing is that in the last one year, new accounts of 70 lakh youth have been opened under the provident fund scheme EPF, which is between 18 to 25 years of age, it shows that new jobs are emerging. Secondly, under the monetary scheme, ten crore people benefited, whether it is no employment, of which there are three crore people who are going to start a new business, a loan of four lakh crores was given in it.
Congress is raising questions on these claims of PM Modi. In fact, a report from IIM Bangalore and State Bank of India has come on EPFO. According to this report, about 4.5 lakh people were registered in 1908 EPFOs in 2015-17. In the year 2017-18, about 55 lakh people were registered in EPFO by November. That is, in the last three years, about 10 million people were registered in the EPFO.
There is also a report from the Center for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) on the jobs. According to CMIE, only 20 lakh jobs were found in 2017. While the number of new people looking for job was about 15 million. In terms of job creation, only 0.5 percent increase has been made in 2016.
The figures on this side are presenting the worst picture of employment in the country and it seems that the youth of the country is not able to fulfill the job dream easily. However, the Government also claims that efforts are being made to give job opportunities to Young India through Make in India and Skill Training. However, the possibility of employment becoming the biggest election issue in the coming elections in the year 2019 can not be ruled out.
