More than one lakh Gram Panchayats are ready to provide digital services, connected to India Net

New Delhi: Government has claimed that more than one lakh Gram Panchayats are fully prepared to provide digital services. There are around two and a half million gram panchayats across the country, under which around six lakh villages are covered.
According to Communication Minister Manoj Sinha, the first phase of India Net has been completed according to the target date. On December 31, 2017, more than 1.01 lakh gram panchayats were provided optic fiber cable more than two and a half million kilometers. Now all these Gram Panchayats are ready to provide digital services. Now all these Gram Panchayats will be able to provide Internet service at the speed of 100 Mbps per second (Mbps). Through this, e-governance, healthcare, e-education and other digital services can be provided in villages.
The Government has set a target to complete the second phase of India Net by March 2019 in the remaining village panchayats remaining close to 1.5 lakhs. But according to Sinha, try is to finish this work till the end of this year. The government has paid Rs 4,066 crore to India net. Under the project, there is a plan to provide internet facility to villages through Wi-Fi or any other brand-brand technology.
Sinha also informed that special provisions are being included in the second phase of India Net. Under this, where financial incentives will be given to those who work on time, those who can not complete the work on time can also be fined.
Sinha also said that India's Net Project has helped in betterment of the Indian telephonic industry, which is the telecom equipment maker, in public sector. These companies were given contracts to prepare many equipment used in the project, due to which the company has now fallen out of the deficit and it will start making pure profits soon
